About us

The Neurocognitive Computing lab team consists of interdisciplinary group of researchers in the fields of cognitive science, neuroscience, artificial intelligence and psychology. The lab is devoted to basic and applied science and uses behavioral, computational and physiological methods to study human cognition, behavior and the relationship between mental and brain processes.

What we do

Assessments

We design and implement cognitive, behavioral and psychophysical experiments. We provide neurocognitive and behavioral assessments to study human brain functions.

Brain mapping

In our experiments, we use electroencephalography (EEG) to study electrical activity of the human brain.

Simulation

We use virtual and Augmented reality to simulate the experience that is similar to the real world. We use this approach to study the medical conditions like Amblyopia and PTSD or designing games.

Emotional Face Database

Emotional Face Database which has been produced in NCC Lab by Ms. Faeze Heydari, is online now! The database was created to study the "effect of facial color modulations on emotion perception" and is now available to all researchers for free.

EFD is a set of images displaying seven different facial emotional expressions (neutral, happy, sad, angry, disgusted, fearful and surprised).All images have been taken under the constant situation of lighting and camera set up from 41 individuals (26 men and 15 women in the age between 18-35). Current projects

Measuring Social bonding using virtual reality

This is a PhD level project run by Dr. Milad Yekani. In this project, using virtual characters, the in-group and out-group bindings are measured.

A comparison of psychophysical tasks on the monitor and in a virtual environment:

Virtual reality as a new tool seems to be a promising tool for psychologists and neuroscientists. In this project, Ms. Razieh Kamali, compares the results of a few selected tasks in a regular on-display tasks with a similar one in the VR environment.

Psychonet

An integrated platform for online neurocognitive tasks and questionnaire for various purposes.

Clinical simulator

An environment developed in collaboration with the skill lab of the medical school, provides a near-real scenarios to develop clinical skills of medical students.

Real or social reward?

In this Ph.D project, Dr. Setareh Farrokhi explores the reward effects of real money vs virtual scores in a social setting in a VR environment.

Pleasure or reward?

Dr. Iman Ahmadnejad, is interested to understand the personal value of each reward. He has obtained fMRI imaging of 20 methamphethamine users while they were watching pleasant and unpleasant stimuli. The interesting results will be published soon.
